Stake for Summer Cup increased to R1m

World Sports Betting (WSB) have stepped in to sponsor the Gauteng Summer Cup over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 28 November.

As a result, the stake of the Grade 1 race, one of the major events on the national horseracing calendar, has been increased from R425 000 to R1 million.

The Melbourne Cup 2020

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the 2020 Melbourne Cup will go ahead on Tuesday 3rd November.

24 horses will take on the Flemington track in 'the race that stops the nation'.

The Melbourne Cup has been held on the first Tuesday of November every year since 1875 (except for during the Second World War, when it was run on Saturdays).

You can see this race live on Tellytrack at 6am on Tuesday, 3 November.

It's sad to see the champion filly Anything Goes withdrawn from Saturday's Ready To Run Cup.

Trainer Stuart Pettigrew told Turf Talk: "I would like to inform everyone that sadly Anything Goes won’t take part in Saturday’s Ready-To-Run Cup as she rolled in the box and injured her wither. We have tried our best to treat it as well as we could with the vets, but I decided to scratch her from the race as it is the professional thing to do."
