Johannesburg, South Africa — "A proper proper horse" was how Andrew Fortune described Mr Peter Moor's 2yo gelding, GIMMETHATWORLDCUP (Gimmethegreenlight – Captive Lady) after his victory in the 2026 TAB Casino Champion Juvenile Cup.
Jumping from stall gate 2, the pair found company and settled just off the pace for the early part of the race. Coming off the false rail, they found a clear run and GIMMETHATWORLDCUP powered home up the straight to register his second career victory from 3 outings by a comfortable 1.25 lengths.
Fortune was full of praise for the quality 2yo In the post race formalities, saying he rated him a 10 furlong horse on the grass and would not be surprised to see him take his chances in the Cape Derby.
Trainer Alan Greeff said he’d originally intended to put the gelding away for the season, but couldn’t resist trying him in this race. Reflecting on the on-going weather challenges and the last minute change of surface, he expressed his appreciation for the polytrack for allowing the show to go on and praised it as ‘the best polytrack in the country.’
GIMMETHATWORLDCUP was Greeff’s 4th winner on the day and not only added another trophy to his mantlepiece, but tipped him over the R200 million mark in career earnings, making it a memorable way to end off the final Fairview feature race fixture for the season.
GIMMETHATWORLDCUP (Gimmethegreenlight – Captive Lady) was bred by Varsfontein Stud and was a R600,000 purchase from the 2025 Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling Sale. Racing in the interests of loyal East Cape racing supporter Mr P J Moor, the gelding now has 2 wins and a place from 3 career starts and will be one to watch in the coming season.
