Trainer G van Zyl (Jnr) saddled six winners at Scottsville Monday the 16th of June, it will definitely be remembrance day for the stable as six winners on a day is no small feat, so much has to go right on the day. Gareth was champion trainer of KwaZulu-Natal province for the 2021/2 season and despite his age he is no greenhorn. Gareth won the 1st four races on the card. the 1st one was ridden by jockey Nicholas Patel, S'Manga won on the next three then with Sean Veale winning the last race on the card for Gareth bringing his total to six.

Last July Gareth had FLAG MAN run 4th in the July and this year he does not have a runner in the main event July day but he does have the 4 year old KING PELLES running in the Grade 3 GOLD VASE over 3000m, he also has the 4 year filly TOMYRIS running in the Grade 1 GARDEN PROVINCE STAKES over 1 mile as well as 3 year gelding LION RAMPART running in the Grade 3 POST MERCHANTS.

Gareth is also the current KZN champion trainer and is leading this year’s championship.

Gareth you can say was born into the game being the son of retired Champion jockey Gavin Van Zyl, Gavin also trained for awhile and won the THEKWINI STAKES (Grade 1) (For 2 year-old Fillies). Gavin is not lost to the game since handing in his trainers license and of late has been schooling riders Warren Kennedy and Serino Moodley are two that come to mind.

S'Manga Khumalo rides 5 from 6

Jockey S'Manga Khumalo rode five winners today at Hollywood Scottsville. Four of the five were for trainer Gareth Van Zyl and one for Trainer Wendy Whitehead. S'Manga Khumalo now brings his total to 38 winners since his return to racing in March this year.
