Gqeberha or better known as the Friendly City of Port Elizabeth, is the home of the Eastern Cape’s only thoroughbred horse racetrack.
Nelson Mandela Bay Racing (Fairview Racecourse) hosts racedays every Friday.
The course is managed and maintained by 4Racing (Pty) Ltd.
It is situated in the ever-expanding western suburbs of Greenbushes and is a quick 10 minutes from the popular Baywest Shopping Mall.
Racing has a rich and long history in the City going back as far as 1850, when irregular thoroughbred horse racing took place. Racing officially started in 1857, when the Port Elizabeth Turf Club was formed.
The old Fairview Racecourse was situated where the Greenacres Shopping Centre is today.
In 1977, the track in Greenbushes was official opened and is still operating today.
In total horseracing has been part of the beautiful city for more than 170 years.

Turf. 2700m near-oval track. Races up to 1200m straight; beyond 1200m clockwise round turn with 800m run-in. DRAW: Poly: Low numbers preferred up to 1600m. Turf: Low-number draws slightly preferred round turn.
