The WSB EAST CAPE DERBY is the third leg of the 2023 NMB RACING SOPHOMORE CHALLENGE, the first leg was won by KHAYA'S HOPE and the second leg by PERFECTION who is going for his second win in the challenge. The Polly track will suite PERFECTION as he seems to grow an extra leg on the surface and with his change of pace around the bend may be hard to catch. CHERRY ANO has been looking for the distance and is sure to be there in the finish. Justin Snaith is challenging the locals with two improving stayers in COSMIC EVENT and MACHETE MAN. MACHETE MAN could be the one to challenge PERFECTION in setting the pace with CHERRY ANO just off them, COSMIC EVENT is the preferred Snaith runner and should fight the finish with CHERRY ANO. Other local horses hoping to get a share in the prize money are HEATHCLIFF, ZATARA MAGIC and QUASIMODO whose last run is best ignored and could prove stronger this time around.
The DAHLIA PLATE (Listed) for 2 year olds is a challenge for the two local wonder horses, VISION OF WONDER and LUNA HALO, who will have to be at their best to beat GOLDEN SICKLE, who represents Western Cape 2 year old form. GOLDEN SICLE beat LUNA HALO in a Sales race at Kenilworth and should hold the LUNA HALO at bay however VISION OF WONDER has not been tested and his potential to compete nationally will be uncovered by this race.
The LTF team try to make the card simple for you and in race 1 is a race between AADEHYA and the Highveld visitor XPLICIT CONTENT.
In race 2 VANDALISE has a good winning chance and could get cheek form improvers JAMBO SANA, STAGE PLAY and newcomer ELUSIVE MATA.
Race 3 if PRINCIPESSA MIA behaves at the start and bets a good break, she should be hard to beat. YGRITTE and SHORT SHARP SHOCK are the dangers.
In Race 4 GOLD FOR AFRICA was an unlucky loser last time out and poses a threat to POPPING CREASE others to look out for are SJAMBOK, PAINITE, TWICE A SAINT and FLYING ASTERIX.
Race 5 BLONDE ACT should get the better of BUSH TRACKER with WAITING FOR SUMMER and TARANTINO having a say in the finish.
In race 8 NO TIME IS TAKEN could be a value horse to follow, he takes on RAINBOW THIEF who is coming to form again and BADRAH (AUS) who was unlucky not to win last time out.
Race 9 is a match between the steadily improving EL ROMIACHI and the much improved PASHTUNWALI.
Race 10 brings the curtain down on an exciting meeting where all of I LIKE IT HOT, RIDE THE LIGHTNING and QUICK COUNT look set to fight out the finish however if you ignore the last two runs of YAYA MARIA then sure, you could also have a say in the finish.
