Turffontein's race meeting abandoned

Official statement:

"Please note that today’s Turffontein race meeting (16-02-2023) has been abandoned.

"Further to our correspondence yesterday afternoon , Turffontein received a further 17mm of rainfall overnight while the Vaal received 16mm of rainfall overnight.

"All three tracks are waterlogged and unsafe for racing."

Night of 15 February 2023:

"Please note:

"Turffontein has received 58mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours and 179mm of rainfall in the last 7 days.

"The Vaal has received 4mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours and 104mm in the last 7 days.

"The current Pen reading on the Turf Standside track is sitting at 28.

"The Turf Inside track is currently waterlogged.

"The current Pen reading at the Vaal is averaging 26.

"The forecast shows further rain through the evening and any further rain would put tomorrow’s race meeting in jeopardy.

"Gallops have been scheduled for both venues at around 7-7:30am , all dependent on the rainfall through the evening, in order to give this meeting the best chance to go ahead.
