STIPES REPORT: The start of this race was delayed due to the farrier having to re-fit the left fore shoe on TWIST OF FATE (A Domeyer). VARDY (C Zackey) and BUNKER HUNT (G van Niekerk) lost one length, respectively. At the 2000m, RAINBOW BRIDGE (W Kennedy) and DIVINE ODYSSEY (S Randolph) were carried out by GOLDEN DUCAT (D Dillon) which rolled out. BUNKER HUNT (G van Niekerk) shifted in away from the crop at the 300m. SILVANO'S PRIDE (S Moodley) raced clear of the field in the early and middle stages. Thereafter, this filly compounded in the straight. When questioned regarding his riding of SILVANO'S PRIDE, Jockey S Moodley told the Stewards that from his wide draw, his instructions were to set the pace on this filly which has been a front runner in its previous races. After an adequate start, he had been able to attain a forward position, however, he had to still obtain clearance in advance of PADRE PIO (A Mgudlwa) which was also intent on leading. Once he had obtained the lead, this filly had commenced to over-race and this resulted in him being further clear of the field than he had intended. As a result, this filly had come under pressure in the home straight and had not finished the race off strongly. The Stewards advised Jockey Moodley that this report would be noted, but his obligation as a professional rider is to ensure that he sets a pace which enable his mounts to close their races off in a competitive manner in future. Jockey C Zackey reported that VARDY (4.95 lengths) took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Jockey G van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with BUNKER HUNT (12.05 lengths) in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse BELGARION more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey R Fourie the Board considered the number of times (17) Jockey R Fourie struck the horse BELGARION, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey R Fourie used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days was imposed. (Suspension dates : 30.07.2020 to the 05.08.2020) BELGARION (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J Snaith advised (SC). GOLDEN DUCAT was ridden by Jockey D Dillon (advised 22.07.2020/08h28). TIERRA DEL FUEGO raced with a compression mask (advised 24.07.2020/11h06).
