Cape Racing cancels the 20 March Hollywoodbets Durbanville race meeting due to National Shutdown.
Cape Racing has announced the cancellation of its upcoming race meeting scheduled for Monday, 20 March 2023. The decision was made amid safety and logistical concerns due to the proposed national shutdown and the decision of the union representing a large percentage of Cape Racing’s employees to participate in the shutdown.
Justin Vermaak, Cape Racing’s Racing Operations & Bloodstock executive added: "The decision to cancel the race meeting was a difficult one and was not taken lightly. However, the safety of our staff, jockeys, owners, trainers, spectators, and horses, is what matters most. Given the sizable staff shortages and logistical challenges on the roads, we felt as if we were left with little choice. We understand that this news will be disappointing for racing fans, but we must prioritize the safety and well-being of our stakeholders."
