CHARLES DICKENS at the 2022 Guineas

The Cape Derby on Saturday, 25 February 2023, ends the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Summer Festival of Racing. And what a festival it has been!

It appears that the 3yo CHARLES DICKENS from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable is heading the favourites list but he is up against a slew of Justin Snaith's horses. In particular there is ROCKPOOL with jockey Richard Fourie in the saddle.

To the threat, Candice responded, "We always respect quality opposition, and naturally he looks like a lovely horse with scope. But he will need to improve further."

Asked about CHARLES DICKENS, she said, "He is well and a decision was made that we will aim him at the Derby at the end of February. We would not be doing that if we didn’t believe he would stay the 2000m and we are looking forward to it."

CHARLES DICKENS will be ridden by Aldo Domeyer who knows the horse very well.

The only out of province entry is the Michael Roberts-trained SEE IT AGAIN, who is one of five horses in the field who run in the colours of big Durban-based owner Nick Jonsson.

Let's see what happens on Saturday.
